Which press release sites are Google News eligible in 2026?
Google News eligibility explained, which outlets in our directory qualify, why it matters for fast indexing, and what it does not do for rankings.
"Google News approved" is one of the most repeated phrases in press-release marketing and one of the least understood. This is what it means, which outlets in our directory qualify, and what to expect from it.
What Google News eligibility means
Google News surfaces content from publishers that meet its content policies; since 2019 publishers no longer apply, Google's systems decide automatically. A publisher whose pages regularly appear in the News tab and in news.google.com is, in practice, "eligible". It says the publisher is treated as a news source. It does not say every page on the site will be shown, and press-release sections are often excluded even on eligible domains.
Why it matters
- Speed. News-eligible publishers are crawled constantly; a release on one is usually indexed within hours.
- Discovery surfaces. Releases can appear in the News tab, and for some publishers in Discover, where a normal page never would.
- AI answer engines lean on the same publishers as sources.
What it does not do
It is not a ranking factor for web search, it does not make links dofollow, and it does not stop Google from treating a syndicated release as duplicate content. The page still needs the brand in the headline and the buyer's questions in the body to rank; see do press releases help SEO.
Eligible outlets in the directory
Each listing carries a Google News flag. As of this writing the eligible ones are:
- Yahoo Finance — wire syndication, indexed within a day
- AP News — wire syndication, press-release section
- Business Insider — markets section
- Benzinga — large press-release section, reliable indexing
- StreetInsider — the affordable base layer of a distribution
- Digital Journal — sponsored articles, fast and inexpensive
- Retail Dive — trade press for retail and e-commerce
- Cryptopolitan — crypto news
USA Today's press-release section is not surfaced in Google News, and it does not need to be: the pages rank in web search on the domain's authority.
How to use this
Pair one national placement for authority with one or two Google News eligible wires for speed. The Growth bundle is built that way, and the directory filter lets you assemble your own.
Does Google News eligibility guarantee my release appears in Google News?
No. Eligibility means the publisher's content can be surfaced in Google News; whether a specific release is shown depends on Google's systems.
Is Google News inclusion an SEO ranking factor?
Not directly. Its practical value is fast discovery and indexing, plus visibility in the News tab and Discover for some publishers.
