PR Newswire pricing in 2026: membership, per-release fees and what you actually pay
PR Newswire pricing explained: the annual membership, what a 400-word US release costs by circuit, the per-100-word and multimedia add-ons, three worked examples, and what the same outlets cost through cheaper wires.
PR Newswire does not publish a rate card. You pay an annual membership (reported at $195 to $305), then a per-release fee set by the circuit: the last published list prices were $355 (one state), $650 (Top Markets) and $850 (US national) for 400 words, and quotes reported by buyers in 2025 were higher, around $1,070 for a national release plus $340 per extra 100 words. A 600-word national release with a logo lands near $2,400 before tax. The same finance outlets are reachable from $149 to $499 through other wires.
Every month people search for “PR Newswire pricing”, and every month the answer is scattered across old PDFs, reseller pages and forum threads. This guide puts the numbers in one place, says which are published and which are reported by buyers, and works through three real-world orders so you can see what a release actually costs. All prices are in US dollars and were checked on 23 October 2026.
How PR Newswire pricing works
Four things add up to the invoice:
- Membership. PR Newswire (owned by Cision) is a membership organisation. Its own guides describe an annual fee that you pay before sending anything. Buyers reported $195 by card or $249 when invoiced in 2025, while a publishers' association lists the standard fee at $305 and a member rate of $99. Treat it as $200 to $300 a year unless you have a discount code.
- The circuit. A circuit is the geography the release is distributed to: a single state, the “Top Markets” list of large US metros, US national (“US1”), or international packages. The circuit sets the base price, which covers 400 words.
- Words over 400. Every additional 100 words (or part of 100) is billed on top. This is where most invoices grow: a 900-word release on the national circuit pays five word blocks.
- Multimedia and extras. A logo, a photo, a video, extra regions, trade-industry lists and “premium placements” are each priced separately and quoted at order time.
Because the final price is quoted after you join, the public numbers come from two kinds of source: the last list prices PR Newswire itself published, and quotes that customers have shared since. Both are in the table.
The numbers
| Circuit (400 words) | List price | Reported 2025 quotes | Extra 100 words (2025) | 2016 official rate card |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One state | $355 | $485 – $620 | $180 – $185 | $350 + $125 per 100 words |
| Top Markets | $650 | $750 – $830 | $215 – $245 | $575 + $165 |
| US national (US1) | $850 | $1,070 | $340 | $795 + $225 |
| Premier Global | quote only | $10,895 | quote only | not listed |
| Logo | quote only | about $500 | — | $495 |
| Photo or video | quote only | quote only | — | $325 each |
| AP News syndication add-on | quote only | $325 | — | not listed |
| Paid placements (sponsored positions) | quote only | $550 – $3,310+ | — | not listed |
Sources: Prezly's PR Newswire pricing page, Everything-PR's distribution comparison, NewswireJet's compiled quotes and PR Newswire's 2016 domestic pricing guide. The 2016 column is there for the trend: the national base price has risen from $795 to a reported $1,070, about 35% in nine years, and the per-100-word charge from $225 to $340.
Bundles exist too. The last list showed four-release packages with a logo at $2,395, $3,095 and $3,895 depending on the circuit, which works out at $600 to $975 a release before extra words.
Three worked examples
Using the reported 2025 quotes, with the membership counted once:
| Order | PR Newswire direct | The same through a PR Newswire reseller | A cheaper wire that reaches the same finance sites |
|---|---|---|---|
| 400-word launch, one state, no media | $485 – $620 + membership ≈ $700 – $900 for your first release; $485 – $620 after that | eReleases Buzz Builder $399 (400 words), no membership | EIN Presswire Basic $149 (700 words, one image, AP News and USA TODAY Network included) |
| 600-word national release with a logo | $1,070 + 2 × $340 + about $500 for the logo + membership ≈ $2,450 – $2,550 | eReleases PR Pro $699 (600 words) | Newswire.com Starter $399 or Business Wire from $475 (400 words, local) and extra words billed per 100 |
| Four 400-word releases over a year, national, with a logo | List bundle $3,895, or four quoted releases ≈ $4,280 + logo + membership | 4 × eReleases Buzz Builder = $1,596 (less with the first-order discount) | EIN Presswire Pro+ $499 for five releases, or PRWeb Premium 4 × $480 = $1,920 |
The reseller route is the one most small companies miss. eReleases sends through PR Newswire's national circuit and charges $399, $499 or $699 for 400, 500 or 600 words, plus $150 per further 100 words, with no membership and a 30% discount on a first order. 24-7 Press Release has a $479 tier that is PR Newswire national distribution for 375 words, with $110 per extra 100 words. You give up the direct account and some reporting; you keep the circuit.
What the money buys, and what it does not
A wire sells distribution: the release is sent to the sites on the circuit. It does not sell publication. Each partner decides whether to post the release, whether to let Google index it, and how long to keep it. That matters when you read the report at the end. PR Newswire's Visibility Reports define “Total Potential Audience” as the sum of the average monthly visitors of every site that posted the release, taken from SimilarWeb. A release posted on 300 partner sites can show a potential audience in the hundreds of millions while a few thousand people read it.
The finance mastheads buyers care about are reached through several wires, not one. Yahoo Finance syndicates releases from GlobeNewswire, PR Newswire, Business Wire and ACCESS Newswire. The AP News press-release section takes releases from EIN Presswire (since September 2022), Newswire.com, PR.com's $300 tier and PRLog's add-on, as well as the large wires. So “we need PR Newswire to get on Yahoo Finance” is not true; it is one of four doors, and the most expensive one. How a release ends up on Yahoo and what the page does afterwards is covered in Yahoo Finance press release: how syndication works.
Two numbers put the whole category in proportion. In Muck Rack's analysis of more than a million links cited by AI assistants, press releases were a small source, and of the press-release citations that did occur, 61% pointed to GlobeNewswire, 27% to PR Newswire and 12% to Business Wire. And a study of 250 PR Newswire and Business Wire releases from the first quarter of 2026 found that 47 of them (19%) were cited by any of five AI engines within 90 days, and that the citations went to editorial coverage 112 times and to the wire page itself 9 times. The publisher of that study runs a PR agency, so read it as one data point, but it matches what we see: the wire copy is a record, the coverage is the asset.
Who actually needs PR Newswire
Listed companies. Regulation FD governs selective disclosure by publicly traded companies, and Nasdaq's Rule 5250(b)(1) requires material news to be disclosed through a Regulation FD compliant method. A disclosure-grade wire with timestamps, EDGAR links and an audit trail is the normal way to meet that, and PR Newswire, Business Wire and GlobeNewswire all sell it. The NYSE has not required a press release since 2009, but most issuers still use one.
If you are not a public company, none of that applies to you. Your announcement needs to be on sites your customers and journalists read, to be indexed, and to stay up. Every route below does that.
What the alternatives cost in 2026
| Wire | Entry price | Higher tiers | Membership | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Wire | $475 (400 words, US local) | Regional $510, national $940 (reported); 5-release packages $2,595 – $4,495 with unlimited words (reported) | None | Extra words billed per 100; multimedia per asset |
| GlobeNewswire | No published prices | Reported $600 – $800 for a lean North American text release, $900 – $1,200 standard; $140 – $175 per extra 100 words | Quote | Yahoo Finance, AP, Bloomberg and MarketWatch listed as partners |
| ACCESS Newswire | About $499 (reported) | Flat fee, unlimited words, images included | None stated | Yahoo Finance, AP, MSN, Benzinga named on its blog |
| EIN Presswire | $149 (700 words, 1 image, 3 links) | $499 for 5 releases, $999 for 15 | None | AP News, Nexstar stations and the USA TODAY Network included; no health supplements |
| PRWeb (Cision) | $120 | $245, $360, $480 | None | Syndication network; named national outlets not included |
| Newswire.com | $399 | $659, $965 (Feature, Yahoo); State $599 | None | Unlimited words and images; AP News on every tier |
| Send2Press | $99 (state) | National from $199 | None | Writing $199 |
| 24-7 Press Release | $29 | $49, $89, $139, $199; $479 = PR Newswire national | None | 375 words on the top tier, $110 per extra 100 |
| PR.com | Free | $60, $100, $300 (AP News) | None | Same-day on the $300 tier |
| PRLog | Free (with ads) | $29, $49, $99 (+ AP News and Yahoo add-ons) | None | Google News on $49 and up |
Three cautions when you read that table. Entry prices rarely include the outlets you actually want; the cheap tiers of the big wires are regional or syndication-only. Word limits bite: a 1,000-word release costs nothing extra at ACCESS or Newswire.com and $340 extra per 100 words at PR Newswire. And inclusions change; EIN Presswire, for example, now refuses all health-supplement content, which rules it out for one of the busiest categories.
The named-outlet route
There is a fourth way to buy, and it is how LegitPR works: instead of a circuit, you pick the outlet. USA Today, Yahoo Finance, AP News, Business Insider, Benzinga, Morningstar and the rest are each priced on their own, the label and link type are shown before you order, and the report lists one live URL per placement. There is no membership, extra words do not change the price, and a placement that cannot be published is refunded. Members see the price on every listing in the directory; market benchmarks for each outlet are in how much a USA Today press release costs, and the three kinds of alternative are compared in PR Newswire alternatives for small brands.
Before you pay any wire
- Ask for the circuit's site list by name, and which of those sites post the full text rather than a headline.
- Ask what a 1,000-word release costs, not a 400-word one. Most releases run over 400 words.
- Ask whether the quote includes the membership, the logo and tax.
- Ask how 'audience' is calculated in the report. If it is summed site traffic, it is not your readership.
- Ask what happens if a partner removes the copy. The honest answer is 'nothing we can do'; the dishonest one is 'permanent'.
One fixed price per outlet, shown to members before checkout, with the label, link type and turnaround on the listing; no membership, no per-word charges, and a refund for any placement that is not published, as set out in our refund policy. If you are unsure whether a wire or a named placement fits your announcement, are paid press releases worth it? walks through the decision.
How much does a PR Newswire press release cost?
There is no public rate card. The last published list prices were $355 for a state circuit, $650 for Top Markets and $850 for US national, each for 400 words. Quotes reported by buyers in 2025 ran higher: about $1,070 for a 400-word national release plus $340 for every extra 100 words, before the annual membership and any logo, image or video.
Does PR Newswire charge a membership fee?
Yes. PR Newswire is a membership organisation and bills an annual fee before the first release goes out. Reported figures range from $195 to $305 a year depending on the source and how you pay; partner programmes advertise discounts on it.
Can I use PR Newswire without becoming a member?
Through a reseller. eReleases sells PR Newswire distribution per release ($399 for 400 words, $499 for 500, $699 for 600) with no membership, and 24-7 Press Release offers a $479 PR Newswire national tier for 375 words. You pay more per word but nothing up front.
Does PR Newswire guarantee my release appears on Yahoo Finance or AP News?
No wire guarantees a named outlet. A circuit is a list of sites the release is sent to; whether a partner publishes, indexes or keeps the copy is the partner's decision. PR Newswire's own Visibility Reports measure 'potential audience', which is the summed monthly traffic of every site that posted the release, not readers of your release.
What is the cheapest way to get a press release on AP News?
In 2026 the lowest published prices for the AP News press-release section are EIN Presswire's $149 single release, PR.com's $300 tier and PRLog's $99 premium release with the AP add-on. For a named placement with a live URL rather than a syndication list, a marketplace such as LegitPR prices AP News on its own.
Is PR Newswire worth it for a small business?
Usually not. Its pricing and circuits were built for listed companies with disclosure duties. If you are announcing a product, a funding round or a launch, a cheaper wire or a named-outlet placement reaches the same finance sites for a fraction of the cost, and a study of 250 wire releases found only 19% were cited by any AI engine within 90 days anyway.
